Dr Lam Ching-choi: Multi-pronged Approach to Address Elderly Housing Needs

12 Apr 2025 (Sat)

Our Hong Kong Foundation (OHKF) released a research report titled "Policy Path to Ageing in Place for Hong Kong: Shaping an Inclusive Housing and Community Landscape".

Dr Lam Ching-choi, Member of Research Council of OHKF, and Non-Official Member of the Executive Council, The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, suggested Hong Kong formulate housing policies for the elderly and develop housing for them to ensure better care is available.

He recommended local home design incorporate age-friendly elements. He observed that public rental housing has performed relatively well owing to the home modification services provided.

He highlighted the diverse housing needs of the elderly and proposed a multidimensional approach to policy formulation, ensuring appropriate housing choices for those living intergenerationally, single, on different social ladders, etc.
