    Professor Arthur K C Li is Emeritus Professor of Surgery, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and was the founding Chairman of the Department of Surgery CUHK and Chairman of the Surgical Services at the Prince of Wales Hospital. He also served as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of CUHK and then as its Vice-Chancellor (President). He subsequently served as Secretary for Education and Manpower of Hong Kong SAR Government. The Royal College of Surgeons of England appointed Professor Li to the Court of Patrons, its highest honor, and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh bestowed him with its President's Gold Medal. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, UK; the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland; the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow; the American College of Surgeons, the American Surgical Association and the Royal College of Physicians of London.  He had been awarded Honorary Doctorate of Science (University of Hull, UK), Honorary Doctorate of Letters (Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, HKSAR), Honorary Doctorate (Soka University, Japan), Honorary Doctorate of Laws (The Chinese University of Hong Kong, HKSAR) and University of the West of England, UK and Honorary Doctorate of Science (Medicine) (University College London, UK).  Professor Li was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star and the Gold Bauhinia Medal by The Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

    Professor Li is now a member of the Executive Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and is a member of the Basic Law Committee of the Standing Committee of the National People Congress.

    Professor Li was previously on the Board of Glaxo Wellcome plc., The Hong Kong Applied Science and Research Institute Company Ltd., and The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation.  He was also a Non-Executive Director of China Mobile (Hong Kong) Limited, Henderson Cyber Limited, The Wharf (Holdings) Limited, and the Non-Executive Chairman of Corus and Regal Hotels plc. He resigned from all these positions upon assumption of office as Secretary for Education and Manpower in 2002, to avoid any possible conflict of interest.

    Professor Li is currently Deputy Chairman of The Bank of East Asia; an Independent Non-Executive Director of Shangri-La Asia Limited; and non-executor director of Greater Bay Airlines Co., Ltd.
