Cheongsam and Cantonese opera respectively symbolize intangible cultural heritage in the forms of “dress aesthetics” and “performing arts.” A subject talk titled “Cheongsam and Cantonese Opera in Hong Kong: Dual Symbols of Cultural Transmission”, jointly organised by Our Hong Kong Foundation and the Hong Kong Central Library, invited representatives from the Hong Kong Cheongsam Association and the One Table Two Chairs Charitable Foundation. By examining their historical development in Hong Kong, this session will analyse contemporary practices of cultural transmission.

The discussion will focus on concrete teaching methods, performance formats, and community engagement used today to preserve and promote these cultural heritages. It will also explore how these traditional arts adapt to the contemporary cultural environment to ensure their continued viability.
