Ryan Ip: Forecast of Private Housing Supply Trends over the Next 10 Years
Our Hong Kong Foundation (OHKF) launched its latest exclusive annual housing supply forecast on 2 May. Ryan Ip, Vice President cum Co-Head of Public Policy Institute of OHKF, anticipated that between 2024 to 2028, an average of 19,100 private housing units will be completed annually.
Nevertheless, this will be skewed towards 2024 and 2025 with over 20,000 units each year, then tailing off to reach 15,000 to 17,000 units annually between 2026 and 2028.
Ryan Ip also said, looking further ahead, subject to the disposal success rate for government-controlled land supply and the pace of taking forward private-initiated projects, we forecast an average annual completion between 14,400 and 18,500 units in 2029–2033.
