Mr Geoffrey CHOI

Mr Choi is currently a senior advisor in Ernst & Young (‘EY’) Greater China.

From 2016 to 2021, Mr Choi was the Managing Partner for the Financial Services Assurance Practice of EY in Asia Pacific. Under his leadership during the period, the FS Assurance practice in Asia Pacific grew from around 2,500 professionals to more than 4,000 across nine countries in the Asia Pacific region covering China, Japan, Australia, Singapore, South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Vietnam.

Mr Choi has over 30 years of experience auditing financial services organisations, specializing in the provision of audit and other assurance services to a number of financial institutions, including large state-owned commercial banks, insurance companies and securities companies.

He had worked in Hong Kong, London and Singapore before his relocation to Mainland China in 2002. Since then, he had been based in Beijing for more than 20 years.

Mr Choi has played a key role in supporting the financial reform of the Chinese financial institutions, assisting them in their financial restructuring, corporate governance design, internal controls improvement and initial public offerings. He was a key audit partner in the provision of IPO service offerings for Bank of China and Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. Mr Choi has acted as the signing CPA for the audits of large financial institutions including Bank of China, China Construction Bank, China Life and Sunshine Insurance.

Mr Choi is an active participant in ESG events and activities. He had been invited to act as guest speaker and panelist in forums and conferences organized by ICMA and other reputable ESG organisations. The topics and speeches covered green bonds, carbon neutralization and developments of sustainable finance. The Climate Change and Sustainability Services Group under Mr Choi’s leadership has won a number of awards in green financing.

Mr Choi has been passionate in promoting corporate social responsibility. He regularly works with some of the world’s leading nonprofits organisations to foster the development of mindsets and transferable skills among young and underserved people. He has also worked with impact entrepreneurs through not-for-profit projects, providing hands-on services and guidance to scale their businesses.

Mr Choi holds a Bachelor degree in Business Administration majoring in Accounting from the Queensland University of Technology in Australia. He is a practising member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Accountants and CPA Australia.
