Our Hong Kong Foundation (OHKF) and Yidan Prize Foundation presented the Insight Forum on Dec 6, titled “From Global Opportunities to Local Action: Charting Hong Kong’s Way Forward as an International Education Hub”. The forum gathers esteemed Yidan Prize laureates to share pioneering research and insights on topics like AI in education, geopolitical impact on talent flows, and future competencies.

With the welcoming remarks delivered by OHKF President Dr Jane Lee and Secretary-General of Yidan Prize Foundation Bruce Au, the Forum welcomed Professor Eric A. Hanushek, 2021 Yidan Prize for Education Research Laureate, Paul and Jean Hanna Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution of Stanford University, and Yidan Prize advisor Ms Ruth Kagia, High-Level Envoy and Advisor of Global Partnership for Education (GPE) as panellists of the Dialogue Session. Moderator Dr Brian Wong, Assistant Professor of the University of Hong Kong, Fellow of Centre on Contemporary China and the World of University of Hong Kong discussed global education trends with the speakers.

The keynote session examined the key factors that have shaped Hong Kong’s education development, including the structural shifts in the city’s population since the 1950s. Strengthening Hong Kong’s role as an international education hub requires positioning the city as a centre of knowledge creation and dissemination, grounded in the view of education as a public good. At the same time, attracting and supporting scholars and teachers is vital to sustaining and sharing knowledge. Speakers also discussed insights from their global experience on course design and hybrid teaching.

The Forum attracted a full house of attendees, and Sun Hung Kai Properties Group was the venue sponsor.

As Hong Kong advances toward becoming a premier international education hub, it shines as a paragon of academic excellence, highlighted by the QS World University Rankings 2026 released in June, featuring five Hong Kong universities in the world's top 100, more than any other city in the world, reaffirming our world-class education quality and academic distinction. Positioned as the essential bridge between East and West, Hong Kong cultivates vital collaborations, merging diverse cultures, innovations, and knowledge to drive global educational progress.

Our Hong Kong Foundation and Yidan Prize Foundation co-host a new Insight Forum, entitled “From Global Opportunities to Local Action: Charting Hong Kong’s Way Forward as an International Education Hub”. The forum gathers esteemed Yidan Prize laureates to share pioneering research and insights on topics like AI in education, geopolitical impact on talent flows, and future competencies. Through these discussions, we seek to ignite strategies that bolster Hong Kong's prominence in the era of rapid innovation.
