北京天安門廣場每天都會舉行升降旗儀式，但在建國初期，只有元旦、國慶等重要日子才會升旗。擔起重任的並非專職升旗手，而是維修升旗裝置的北京供電局工人。

1949年10月1日，時任天津音樂工作團團長王莘，參加完開國大典後，對國家未來發展充滿期待，他想用歌曲表達這種心情，不過花了近一年，寫了百多首歌都沒有一首滿意。

數十年前露天看電影是農村的盛事，放映員翻山越嶺搬運器材扔撑起白色幕布，調校好機器，就可以開始看電影。為了讓更多人可以看電影，1950年，中央電影局在南京舉辦第一期放映培訓班，有2000多人參加，年紀最小的是只有16歲的袁志舜，受訓4個月後被派到江蘇鎮江，那裏只有一間戲院，大部分時間都在工廠、田間辦放映會。
